09 Feb, 2024

Luis Simões received this medal in 2023 for the fifth consecutive year, with a score three points higher than in 2022, and surpassing the sector average in all areas analyzed.

The recognition demonstrates the sustainable performance of Luis Simões’ transportation operations, in line with the demands of its clients, which include Coca-Cola, Nestlé, and Unilever – major food and beverage brands.

Ecovadis, which has analyzed more than 1.6 million companies from 200 different industries, seeks to promote sustainability in supply chains, aiming to drive innovation, minimize risks, and foster transparency and trust among business partners. In the case of Luis Simões, the organization evaluates transportation operations in different aspects, including environmental impact, sustainable procurement, labor and human rights, and ethics.

The score awarded is above the sector average in all areas analyzed, with Environment being the most prominent, followed by labor practices and ethics.

The certificate is the result of implementing a comprehensive corporate social responsibility strategy, led by a multidisciplinary team involving different areas of Luis Simões’ business.

“We are very proud to receive Ecovadis’ Gold Medal for our transportation business once again. At Luis Simões, we understand that being sustainable involves innovating and transforming in many ways and committing to actions that go beyond emissions reduction,” says Cláudia Simões, Sustainability Coordinator at Luis Simões. “Sustainability must be viewed from a cross-cutting and future-oriented perspective. Only then can we offer a quality service that aligns with the new needs of our clients, our economy, and our society,” she concludes.

Luis Simões: an ESG-focused growth strategy

Under this premise, Luis Simões has positioned itself as a sustainable transportation company, aligned with the responsible objectives of many of its clients, including Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Heineken, Procter & Gamble, and Unilever, among other relevant FMCG sector brands.

During 2023, Luis Simões’ fleet covered more than 120 million kilometers, and nearly 10,000 e-commerce shipments were managed daily. All these operations were approached from a sustainable perspective, which has succeeded in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions levels of the fleet by 12% compared to 2017.

Among the multiple initiatives contributing to this purpose is the maintenance of a young fleet, with an average age of 2.6 years, and the commitment to Euro-modular vehicles, with Luis Simões being a pioneer in their sustained introduction on the Iberian Peninsula.

In parallel with these practices aimed at promoting more environmentally friendly transportation, the company has developed various projects dedicated to promoting training, recognition, and the well-being of its employees.
