Luís Simões has been awarded Michelin’s Sustainable Management Declaration, a distinction that certifies efficient tyre management and the resulting reduction in emissions and resource consumption.
This initiative is part of Luís Simões’ strategic mission to deliver low-emission, efficient transport and logistics services.

United by a shared goal
For more than a decade, Luís Simões has relied on Michelin’s retreaded and regrooved tyres – particularly the Michelin REMIX model, a solution designed to meet the current demands of the transport sector while minimising environmental impact. This model is used across the entire fleet of Luís Simões’ Transport business, both in Spain and Portugal, as well as in vehicles rented through RETA.
Thanks to this collaboration, in 2024 Luís Simões avoided the emission of 193.9 tonnes of CO₂e and the use of 32.8 tonnes of raw materials. These results translate into greater operational efficiency, a safer fleet with lower environmental impact, and reduced rolling resistance, which directly contributes to lower fuel consumption and, consequently, reduced emissions.
“We are proud to be part of a project that aims to set a new standard in the transport sector. Working with partners that remain at the forefront of innovation, optimising operations and minimising environmental impact, is essential to delivering on our strategic vision and achieving the Group’s objectives,” said Fernanda Simões, Board Member responsible for the Transport business at Luís Simões.
Technology supporting efficiency and safety
Additionally, the Group’s facilities have incorporated QuickScan technology, a predictive maintenance solution developed by Michelin that enables accurate and professional monitoring of fleet conditions.
Through magnetic strips installed in the flooring of RETA facilities, this technology automatically measures the remaining tread depth of each tyre whenever a vehicle passes over them.
Thanks to this rapid reading, the system detects potential wear or anomalies and issues real-time alerts, enabling preventive interventions. In this way, maintenance management is optimised, operational efficiency is improved, and the fleet remains safer and more sustainable.
Methodology to measure emission reductions
To calculate CO₂e emission reductions, Michelin considered the full lifecycle of the products, carrying out regrooving and retreading actions in line with technical specifications.
These actions significantly reduce tyre raw material consumption and vehicle fuel use, thereby lowering their carbon footprint.
This distinction brings Luís Simões closer to its strategic vision of promoting projects that support decarbonisation, sustainability and circularity, and represents a further step in the strong collaboration both companies maintain to address the sector’s challenges.
