Luis Simões, first company in the world to combine solar and kinetic energy in refrigerated trucks
The operation is part of the sustainability strategy of the company and its commitment to innovation

Luis Simões has become the first company to implement WeTruck technology, a system that combines solar energy with the energy recovered during braking and deceleration of trucks to supply the cooling system of goods.
This innovation responds to the commitment of the company for R&D and environmental care. And this technology, developed in collaboration with AddVolt, brings immediate effects in reducing gas refrigeration units generated in trucks and trailers, allowing a reduction of up to 87% of CO2 emissions during transport of products subject to temperature control.
After two years of research and more than 70,000 km of testing and trials in real operations, Luis Simões and AddVolt have shown that technology contributes significantly in emissions, achieving a reduction of 844 kg per vehicle per month, an improvement also has an effect on a reduction of more than 30% of noise (about 30 dB) and a increase the cooling efficiency of the products during transport.
“In Luis Simões we have always backed a growth strategy based on the pursuit of innovation through collaboration with universities, research centers or government institutions that allow us to build more sustainable patterns of transport, an aspect that is crucial to our sector. Collaboration with the scientific and technological community allows closing the gap between business and the academic world, which gives us the opportunity to develop new skills and create disruptive applications. The WETRUCK project responds precisely to this concept and opens new possibilities in the services we offer to our customers“, affirms Claudia Trindade, Fleet Manager at Luis Simões.
