Luís Simões Win Award Kaizen Lean In Category "Excellence In Productivity"

LS distinguished by project designed to make transport of pulp more efficiently and sustainably

Luís Simões was distinguished, April 13, with the Kaizen Lean Award, a distinction that rewards good practice in the application of Lean methodologies to reduce runtimes, improved efficiency of equipment and increasing overall business productivity . Winner in the category "Excellence in Productivity", LS was awarded for the development of T4T project - Trucks 4 Terminals, which made the pulp transport operation between the unit of Altri in Leirosa (Celbi) and Porto Figueira da Sea of Foz more efficient and sustainable, from an economic, social and environmental view.

The solution makes use of vehicles with greater load capacity, Gigaliners, having been developed in order to better respond to the operation features as tense road flows and reduced hourly windows. At the same time, the stevedoring processes, mooring, unloading, handling and access were the subject of a re-engineering in order to increase the overall efficiency of the operation.

The implementation of the project allowed the reduction in the cost / ton transported by 8%, a decrease in the number of vehicles shipped in the order of 25% (about 4000 vehicles / year on the roads), an increase of weight carried per trip in 33% and a reduction in the amount of kilometers traveled. On the other hand, there was also a direct impact in environmental terms with a reduction of fuel consumption and the volume of CO2 emissions by 25%, a 30% decrease in wear of roads per tonne transported and reduced cycle time in the order of 27%.

It is remarkable that Luis Simões sees Lean methodology as a way to increase productivity and motivation of employees, but also as a contribution to the spread of efficient practices in a society that aspires to be more sustainable. "

In addition to the category "Excellence in Productivity", which included the APGEI - Portuguese Association of Management and Industrial Engineering as a partner entity, yet were to contest the prize "Excellence in Quality", "Excellence in Health Sector" and "Excellence in System Continuous Improvement. All awards intended to highlight an organization as an example of good practice in each of the areas.
