José Luís Simões, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Luís Simões, was distinguished with the Kaizen Prize, which aims to recognize people and/or entities that stand out for the adoption of methods of continuous improvement as a strategic factor. The award, which last year was attributed to Sonae CEO Paulo Azevedo, reflects the direct commitment that a person, in particular, assumes daily in the dissemination of a corporate culture of continuous improvement.

As early as 2016, Luís Simões had won a prize in the "Excellence in Productivity" category, with the development of the T4T Project - Trucks 4 Terminals, which made the pulp transport operation between the Altri unit in Leirosa (Celbi) And the Maritime Port of Figueira da Foz more efficient and sustainable from the economic, social and environmental points of view. The solution concerned the use of vehicles with higher load capacity - the Gigaliners - and has been developed to better respond to the characteristics of the operation as tight road flows and reduced windows.

For Luís Simões, CEO of Luís Simões, "it is of course important to thank the Kaizen Institute for this recognition. However, it is even more important to recognize all employees who focus on the evolution and continuous improvement of Luís Simões every day. We view all organizational culture as a way to increase productivity and attach great importance to the generalization of more efficient practices that have a direct impact on the company, employees, customers, business partners and all the communities where we belong. "

LS's continuous improvement strategy has resulted in increased process efficiency, reduced operating costs and improved service levels and customer satisfaction, with a significant impact in recent years. The implementation is done in its business process, with all employees actively involved in continuous improvement actions, which allowed to achieve efficiency gains and a consequent increase in sales in various areas of the group.
